No Time Like the Present for Fort Meade Luxury Resort

Who says times are tough in the construction industry? Just this week representatives from Mosaic Company announced plans build Streamsong, a luxury resort near Fort Meade, Florida. Not a bad first step for a phosphate company venturing into real estate development.
This over-the-top resort sits in a peaceful lakeside setting, surrounded by miles of forest on 16,000 acres of a former phosphate mine. Some of the building features will include: over 20,000 square feet of meeting facilities, rooftop veranda and pavilion, 4,000 square foot ballroom, 140 extra-large guest rooms, five private villas, and a 15,000 square foot full service spa. The facility will also have a two restaurants, two lounges, and two 18-hole golf courses.

Looking for something to do with you Fourth of July? You could always check out the Siesta Key Fireworks Display. This year will mark the 21st annual celebration of Independence Day on Siesta Key, and the spectacular show of lights begins around 9pm. The show takes place over Sarasota Bay, and tickets are currently being sold for those wishing to attend the main event. These VIP packages require a $150 donation, which is the only form of funding for the event. Those who purchase the VIP tickets receive a picnic dinner for two, on-site parking, beverages, live music, preferred seating, and advertising acknowledgement. Find our more at Flag Fest Sarasota.

The Schroeder-Manatee Ranch property southeast of I-75 and University Parkway will soon see a very different type of housing development. Sarasota County has acquired all essential approvals to begin the construction of the Villages of Lakewood Ranch. The concept behind this so called "village" development is based upon the style of neighborhoods present before suburban life was adopted.
The Sarasota 2050 growth plan that was created several years ago describes villages as clusters of houses that preserve at least half their land as open space. Sarasota’s condo market may be getting better, and soon. Recently Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac initiated new policies that will help condos and short-term rental properties especially. Fannie Mae is aggressively adding new units to its approved lending list, including 35,000 units in the Miami area alone. Thousands more from across Florida are expected to be added throughout the year. Freddie Mac is now backing new mortgages in low occupancy and high association fee delinquency condo complexes. Festival Time in Sarasota

April could be called "Festival Month" in Sarasota and along the west coast of Florida. There are a half dozen festivals, ranging from the Fringe Film Festival and Florida Winefest designed to attract out-of-town visitors and extend the tourist season to Siesta Fiesta which is more for locals.
From April 7 - 11th, we have the Sarasota Fringe Film Festival., where one can screen over 300 films. Over 40 of these films have a local hook, such as the suspense thriller, "Deadly Closure," which was filmed exclusively in Sarasota by Siesta Key resident, Alan Roberts.

Rabid Otter Terrorizes Venice

Move aside peaceful manatees and splashing dolphins - make way for...the rabid otter!
You think I'm kidding? Just last week, one of those cute, furry little guys went berserk and attacked a 96 year old Venice man. The poor fellow was out for his morning walk, when this otter comes out of nowhere, dives at his legs, and takes him down. Then, like he's got ahold of halibut, refuses to let go.
A passing truck driver, thought the old guy had fallen off his bike and ran to help. He called 911, and then attempted to pry the animal off, but there was no way that fur ball was letting go of its prize, until finally he managed to knock it out with a shovel.
The best part, was the 911 call. The operator claims the line went deathly silent…

Condo sales in Sarasota County were up over 100% for Jan. 2010 compared to Jan. 2009. The MFR MLS system shows that in Jan 2010 there were 153 condo closed.
